Interview Tips

As my business, REFINED BEAUTY, has been growing we’ve been doing several  interviews.  I want to share with those who are trying to land their dream job some advice on how to prepare for an interview.

Step 1: Do your homework! Research the place you are interviewing with.  If there is a salon that you are interested in or  company that you are interested in being a part of, do your research! 💻Look them up on social media, review their website, read the reviews on Google, and find out more about who they are.  Be clear about who they are and what they are looking 👀for.  Find out where they located.  Find out their mission and values.  Maybe even visit their salon 💡

I can not tell you how many interviews that I have had where the person on the other side of the phone has no idea where I’m located 🤦🏼‍♀️

They also did not take the time to look at the specifics of who I’m hiring, which is only licensed cosmetologist and Estheticians. This tells me that they’re probably just job shopping 🛒around and hoping that somebody says “you got a job”.    It shows me that their professional level is not up to my standards.

Step 2: have some questions 📝prepared to ask during the interview.  These questions could be on the specifics what is the expectations, your working hours, and education offered.   Most importantly ask what career path do they have for you. It shows the owner that you are taking interest not only in their company but you’re taking a serious step into making sure that you are growing as an individual!  It shows an owner that you might be the star player they are looking for.

Step 3: Thank them for their time.  I am certain that large successful salons get several applicants all the time and so they are carving out their time to interview you.  Reaching back out a few days later to follow up shows you have great communication skills and are eager to partner with them.  There are many moving parts in a business and at times you may be forgotten shortly after your interview. Calling them back or sending a letter shows that you truly are interested in their company and being a part of their business.
